About Me

Welcome to my journey through chronic illness …

Question is...are you?

Question is…are you?

My blog was originally started to inform family and friends of the trials of raising my five (yes, FIVE) children while working as a child care provider and managing and maintaining a household.

Diagnosed with Systemic Lupus Erthematosus (SLE) – Lupus – in the fall of 2010, things kind of went into hyperdrive …following diagnoses of:

Secondary Sjogren’s

Raynaud’s Phenomenon

Fibromyalgia

Rheumatoid Arthritis

Type 2 diabetes

Kidney and heart involvement has currently put a huge crimp in my plans to take over the world, but I’ll still fight it. I’m badass like that.

But illness is not “ME”…simply as aspect. I am a total scrapbooking diva. I love all things Steampunk. I love tattoos. I am a closet girlie-girl. I don’t like mushrooms. I LOATHE running. I have moderate OCD. I love music and used to play piano with the Royal Conservatory of Music. I am an air force brat and damned proud of my Dad. I am an only child who loves football and autumn and chili in the crockpot.

I keep on keepin’ on.

I believe that what you put into life, you will get out of life. Your body, your mind, your soul…all falter in negativism, all flourish in positivism.

I write the way I live. Sometimes out of survival, sometimes emotional, sometimes raw, sometimes sarcastic and witty.  In a nutshell, I say it like it is. This is to give a glimpse into my multi-faceted made-for-tv-movie kind of life…

Keep your arms and legs inside the blog posts at all times…

  1. Hi Brynn – just happened to be surfing the net for crafts and stumbled upon your blog. Your blog “name” got my attention. My mother… was diagnosed with Lupus in the 80’z… and consequently – (was misdiagnosed – her intern diagnosed her himself – w/o referring her to a specialist…she has been diagnosed with another autoimmune disease – Vitiligo – wich actually we didn’t need to go to a doctor for that – it was OBVIOUS.)… I have to say after READING a few of your posts – you sound like a very INTERESTING and UNIQUE person. 😉 and you have one heck of a fighting spirit. (as well as being crafty as well) I work as a Medical Technologist – so Science is my world – we test for LUPUS (running all the rheumatoid panels, ETC…) – Crafting is my “release” from stress as i think is the same for you. right? I’m an only child as well- but ALAS I don’t think I’m OCD-type (I wish I was – maybe I’d be neater! ha ha) – I live on Oahu, HI with my hubby of 17 yrs and 2 sons (Jakob 15 and Ian 9 yrs old.) Anyhow I just wanted to say – keep blogging! Hang in there and God Bless. Aloha!!!

  2. Hi Pattie! Love your sense of humor! I wanted to congratulate you on your Hilarious Health Activist award nomination and on making it to the finals. I am one of the fellow finalists and am just checking out the competition- hahaha! Truly, I am flattered to be nominated and thrilled that so many other people use humor to help them cope. I would have immediately gone crazy after my MS diagnosis if I didn’t learn to use humor to cope with the insanity that is living with a chronic illness. I would love to ask you a question about your site and chat more so if you have a minute, please email me. In the meantime, stay healthy and please, please, please keep blogging!

I have the same diagnosis as you except no type 2 Diabetes. I find your attitude refreshing and inspiring. I got to this site looking up info on light sources.
I found your digestion of the basics on light sources and types quite illuminating. I am in a flare that has lasted for months.
Every evening I sit for hours and crochet under a halogen light. So, now I know to look for an LED bulb . Sometimes , there are SO many variables that effect Lupus that I overlook some. Thanks for being you!
    Namaste,
    Chris

    • SO glad to have found you, Christine!! 🙂 Thank you! I remember the lighting post…I remember being so befuddled why I felt so wonky every time I went to the mall. Lighting. Of all the things, eh?
