Healing Through Art: Natal Necklace

Truth is, sometimes I can, sometimes I choose not to.

There is no “can’t.”

Always up for a challenge, I really, REALLY, wanted to make my daughter a natal necklace. I have one. She really wanted to have one.

Thing is, I’d bought mine many years ago.

Thing is, I was sure as shit certain I could make one my damn self.

Thing is, I’ve never made any kind of jewelry in my life.

*shifty eyes*

So, I brought in my BFF, Google (I just typed “booger”…I’m so fucking exhausted), and it’s sidekick, Youtube.

What is a natal necklace?

I’m a fan of all things “Cosmos.” But, not the asshat Cosmos, the actual planets and interstellar bodies of the Universe.

Thus, I taught myself how to calculate natal charts: The position of the planets at the exact moment of the exact time of your birth, at the latitude and longitude of the place in which you were born. You use a calendar and you most certainly use an emphemeris. Nowadays…there are oodles of software programs that can do it for you…but every now and again, I like to just go old-school.

Yes. That is epic.

Further still, one can even follow general interpretations of the interconnections between each and every planet with each and every OTHER planet: Squares, trines, sextiles, oppositions…

Further STILL, one can follow general interpretations of the interconnections between the planets and which houses they fall in:

Houses without roofs...Totally serious...

Houses without roofs…Totally serious…

Further still…each house falls in and around the existing zodiac constellations…

…and which planet governs that house…

…and where your Ascendant is…under what sign…

…and…well…it can get pretty awesome. πŸ˜‰

What does a natal chart look like?

Yes, I *do* know what each and every symbol means ;)

Yes, I *do* know what each and every symbol means πŸ˜‰

So…here is mine.

My initial thought is:

Look how strong in communication I am! πŸ˜€ *fistpumps*

LOL

No, it’s more complex than that…but you get the overall idea…

Oh, right!! The necklace!!

Silver beads: start of the houses

Gold beads: start of the zodiac constellations

Planets: semi-precious stones (jasper, sodalite, agate, aventuring, tiger’s eye, coral, hematite, etc)…the Sun is always amber for me, simply because it holds a lot of meaning. πŸ™‚

Black bead: North Node

Wavy silver beads: marks the elements on the cardinal points (earth, air, fire, water)…

I chose pink glass spacer beads for her because…PINK. (In a house with four brothers, I do not deny her the option for pink…just sayin’)

The precioussssssssssssss.....

The precioussssssssssssss…..

Gathering the fortitude to just git’er done…

Spacing out the stones and beads according to their degrees on the natal chart...

Spacing out the stones and beads according to their degrees on the natal chart…

I got this bead holder thingie at Walmart for a whopping $4.97.

I like frugal crafting.

This thingie might seem unnecessary, but I can assure that it really, really, was…

Stringin' them up!

Stringin’ them up!

So, I’d had to teach myself how to use crimping tubes and the crimper tool thingie (sensing a theme here??)

…and crimp covers…and figure out just what kind of wire I needed out of eleventy-billion different kinds…

7 strand? 19 strand? 49 strand? (where the hell does 19 come from??)

The *squeeee* heard 'round the world...

The *squeeee* heard ’round the world…

Survey says??

I had one very, very excited wee lass upon gifting it to her…

My son wants one.

My husband wants one.

My other sons want one.

I sense a trend…

My hands are going to hurt whether I sit on my ass, or make a memory.

I just happened to pick one that will last a little longer.

In life, I’m a very firm believer in doing the best that you can with what you’ve been given…but for the love of all things…

DO.

Kind of like Yoda, but…more like “Me.” πŸ˜‰
