Let Me Pen You a Picture…

Day 15 of #HAWMC: Writing with Style

What’s your writing style? Do words just flow from your mind to your fingertips? Do you like handwriting first? Do you plan your posts? Title first or last? Where do you write best?

I think I’d already covered this one for the November challenge…

In a nutshell, if I can use my gift for eloquence and crazy-assed humour to write awareness posts that can help someone have a lil’ understanding of the daily difficulties I aspire to overcome…well…that makes me happy.

I first try to come up with a general idea of what I want to talk about.

Then I promptly forget what I was thinking about.

Secondly, I try to come up with a general idea of what I want to talk about.

Once I have that little tidbit, I try to construct my posts within a context that I think people, both afflicted and non-afflicted, can relate to.

I like to use movie or tv metaphors.  I like to use catch phrases and random crazy word junctions in order to keep a reader’s interest.

What don’t I do?

I sure as shit don’t undermine my own intelligence and “make nice” to other people’s ideas of what, exactly, I should or shouldn’t do within the context of my own personal musings.

Meaning?

I will throw in the occasional cuss.  *gasp*!!

Why?

Why would an artist use the colour blue?  Green?  Mahogany?  Ecru?

It colours my posts.  It’s the “pepper” to my potatoes.  It gives my posts flavour and depth because, as I’m sure most readers can attest to, the chaos of my made-for-tv-movie kind of life is not always purple painted ponies pooping butterflies jacked up on jellybeans.

I’m not just going to tell you how much my afflictions can cause a “little bit of strife” if it’s really kicked me in the teeth and left me begging to be put down…As an artist doesn’t paint only half a picture, I sure as shit ain’t going to post half of my life.

I also like to post an image with each and every post I make.

Why?

I’ve not a bloody clue.  I just like it.  I think a visual reference to my sometimes rambling musings serves to pique a continual interest in my writings and see what “flavour du jour” of chronic badassery I’ll utilize…

I’ll write, re-read…edit and ensure continuity flows through the writing.  Nothing ticks me off more than a change of scene right in the middle of a good part in a made-for-tv-movie…a book…a blog post…

Sometimes the post is created around the title.  Sometimes the title is created around the post.

At the end of the day, I’m crafting a post that serves to illustrate and illuminate just a wee portion of the rollercoaster of being chronically afflicted while working, managing a family, a home and planning a wedding within the context of the chaos of my reality.

Keep your arms and legs inside the blog post at all times…
