Day 18 of #HAWMC: Summer is Coming
Hey, Winter! Don’t let the door hit you on the ass on your way out! \m/
Hey, Summer! Can’t wait to have your UV rays trigger my flares and cause me to watch the clock for the alignment of the UV rating with the outer rings of Saturn in order to go out into the light!
Like some kind of disabled vampire! Less sparkle-y and more Voltaren-y!
I have a love/hate relationship with summertime.
Love not having school bus runs to make. Hate having to work 10 hour days with daycare children, instead of just before and after school.
Love the warmth on my muscles. Hate the UV flares and photo-sensitivity rashes.
Love the picnics with the younglings at the splashpad/park. Hate the amount of time and energy required to prepare and organize these wonderful picnics.
Love the ability to grab your sandals and walk out the door. Hate that I have to apply SPF eleventy-billion on myself, and assist six younglings in applying theirs.
That kind of thing.
BUT: There are barbecued naan pizzas and there are marinated flank steaks. There are cool after-dinner dog walks while the kids scooter. There is light past 9:30PM and there are the even better moments of: CAMPING.
I’m so stoked for summer on the whole. The younglings are mostly self-sufficient, and it helps me SO much more. We plan out out lunches and snacks together, so I don’t break a brain cell.
Rainy days aren’t as squirrel-y as they used to be with them in those toddler years…now they can read books and we can play board games. We make bodywash and bug balms. We do scientificky kinds of things.
Pinterest helps a LOT with planning activities. It’s like shopping for intangible awesomeness, without the financial burden. Win-Win.
It’s a particularly hard season for me, though, physically, but the memories make it well worth the effort!
What are YOU excited to do this summer? 😀
